But God is more powerful. So, we must reject Satan,
Sin and get into God’s plan for our salvation. Not
Our plan, but His.
Job
1:7,
12
“And the LORD said to Satan, “Whence do you
come?” Then Satan answered the LORD and said, “From
roaming the earth
and patrolling it.” …
12
And the LORD said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has
is in your power; only do not lay a hand upon his
person.”
1 John 5:19
“We know that we belong to God, and the
whole world is under
the power of the evil one.”
Satan is the god of this world.
2 Corinthians 4:3-4
“
… to those who are perishing.
In their case the
god of this world has
blinded the
minds of the
unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of
the gospel of the glory of Christ …”
Matthew 6:13
“deliver us from the evil one.”
The Greek could be translated as above or as,
“deliver us from evil.”
as in the Lord’s Prayer we say at Mass.
Notes in NAB at John
17:15 state:
Note the resemblance to the petition of the Lord’s
Prayer, “deliver us from the evil one.”
Both probably refer
to the devil rather than to abstract evil.
John
8:23-26
“He said to them,
“You belong to what is below, I belong to what is
above. You belong to this world, but I do
not belong to this world.
That
is why I told you that
you will die in your
sins. For if you do not believe that I
AM, you will die in your sins.”
So
they said to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them,
“What I told you from the beginning.
I have much to say
about you in condemnation. But the one
who sent me is true, and what I heard from him I
tell the world.”
John 8:23-26
“I will no longer talk much with you, for the
ruler of this world
is coming. He has no power over me”
Ephesians 2:1-5
“You were dead in your transgressions and sins
in which you once
lived following the age of this world,
following the ruler
of the
power of the air,
the spirit that is now at work in the disobedient.
All of us once lived
among them in the
desires of our flesh,
following the wishes of the flesh and the impulses,
and we were by
nature children of wrath,
like the rest.
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of the great
love he had for us,
even when we were dead in our transgressions,
brought us to life with Christ”
Revelation 12:3-18
3
And there was seen another sign in heaven: and
behold a great red
dragon, having seven heads, and ten
horns: and on his head seven diadems: 4 And his tail
drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and cast
them to the earth …
7
And there was a
great battle in heaven, Michael and his
angels fought with the dragon, and the dragon fought
and his angels: 8 And they prevailed not, neither
was their place found any more in heaven. 9 And that
great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, who is
called the devil and Satan, who seduceth the whole
world; and he was
cast unto the earth, and his angels were
thrown down with him. …
12 Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you that dwell
therein. Woe to the
earth, and to the sea, because the devil is come
down unto you, having great wrath,
knowing that he hath but a short time. 13 And when
the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he
persecuted the woman, who brought forth the man
child ...
17 And the dragon
was angry against the woman: and
went to make war with
the rest of her seed, who keep the commandments of
God, and have the testimony of Jesus
Christ. 18 And he stood upon the sand of the sea.”
Isaiah 14:12
How art thou fallen from heaven,
O Lucifer,
who didst rise in the morning? how art
thou fallen to the
earth, that didst wound the nations?”
1
Peter 5:8
“Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the
devil prowls around
like a roaring lion,
seeking some one to devour.
Resist him …”
2 Peter 2:18
“For, uttering loud boasts of folly, they entice
with licentious passions of the flesh men who have
barely escaped from those who live in error.
They promise them freedom,
but they themselves are
slaves of corruption; for whatever overcomes a man,
to that he is enslaved.
20
For if, after they have escaped
the defilements of the
world
through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ, they are again entangled in them and
overpowered, the
last state has become worse for them than the first.”
Tobit Chapter 6:
16-18
(Douay-Rheims
Bible)
16 Then the angel Raphael said to him: Hear me, and
I will shew thee who they are,
over whom the devil can prevail.
17 For they who in
such manner receive matrimony, as to shut out God
from themselves, and from their mind, and
to give themselves to
their lust, as the horse and mule, which have
not understanding, over
them the devil hath power.
18 But thou when thou shalt take her, go into the
chamber, and
for three days
keep thyself
continent from her,
and give thyself to nothing else but to prayers with
her.”
Pope Saint John Paul II
In an address during the 1976 Eucharistic Congress
in Philadelphia for the bicentennial celebration of
the signing of the Declaration of Independence,
Cardinal Karol Wojtyla said:
“We are now standing in the face
of the greatest
historical confrontation humanity has ever
experienced. I
do not think that the wide circle of the
American Society, or the whole wide circle of the
Christian Community
realize this fully. We are now facing the
final confrontation
between the Church and the anti-church,
between the gospel and
the anti-gospel, between
Christ and the
antichrist. The
confrontation lies within the plans of Divine
Providence. It is, therefore, in God’s Plan,
and it must be a trial which the Church must take
up, and face courageously…”
(see
USCCB )
In his 2005 book
Memory and Identity, the pope
suggested that the world-wide push for
same sex unions is part
of an ideology of evil. “It is legitimate
and necessary to ask oneself if this is not perhaps
part of a new ideology of evil, perhaps more
insidious and hidden,
which attempts to pit
human rights against the family and against man,”
he wrote.
And in 1980 he warned,
“What
is going to happen to the Church?
. . .
We must
prepare ourselves to suffer great trials
before long, such as will demand of us a disposition
to give up even life, and
a total dedication to Christ and for Christ
. . With your and my prayer it is possible to
mitigate this tribulation, but it is no longer
possible to avert it, because only thus can the
Church be effectively renewed. How many times has
the renewal of the Church sprung from blood! This
time too, it will not be otherwise.
We must be strong
and prepared, and trust in Christ and His Mother,
and be very, very assiduous in praying the Rosary.”
